Sleep problems
Is ‘beauty sleep’ just a myth or an old wives tale? Maybe not; recent research done by Professor Ronnie Marks (emeritus Professor of Dermatology at University of Wales) and Clinical Psychologist Alex Gardner, looked at the effects of sleeplessness on appearance, and it revealed that beauty sleep is not a myth. But its biggest affects were connected to self-esteem and confidence. Find out more...
Not being able to go to sleep (insomnia)
Many people just find it hard to drop off to sleep. Some people find that they can easily go to sleep, but then awake later in the night and then cannot drop off to sleep again. Well known people with this type of problem include film stars Colin Farrell and Sandra Bullock.

Sleep talking and sleepwalking
Mumbling or talking can happen in our sleep, although it is normally a problem for partners, rather than the talker. Safety can be a sleepwalking issue, although most of the time it is harmless. The explorer David Hempleman-Adams famously sleepwalked on one of his trips; he tried to climb out of a hot air balloon while 4,000ft in the air over the Artcic!

Dreams and nightmares
Some people find their dreams or nightmares disturbing enough to seek help.

Snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea
Like sleep talking, snoring often disturbs a partner, rather than the sufferer. It is advisable to consult your doctor to ensure that there is no underlying physical problem, such as obstructive sleep apnoea. Around 30 million Britons are affected by snoring.
Good sleep is essential for maintaining our emotional stability and our physical functioning. Without sleep, reaction times shrink, libido can be seriously reduced and immune systems are impaired. Hypnotherapy offers help to restore a healthy sleep pattern.

The first rule of sleep is relaxation. If you don’t know what true relaxation feels like, then you can be taught. If emotions are causing you problems relaxing (e.g. worry, guilt, anxiety, etc), these may also be helped by Hypnotherapy.
2
Ritual  and habit plays a part in good sleep patterns. It’s part of ‘getting in the mood’ for sleeping and preparing your mind and body to expect that sleep will follow.
3
Training your body clock is another element of good sleep, so that a regular routine and timing is in place.
