To lose weight and to keep to a natural and healthy body weight we need to have certain things in place:

Reasonably good self-esteem.
·
Incentives and good motivation.

What’s in it for me?
A good starting place is to list why it is that you want to lose weight. Most people do this in a negative way, and they say things like ‘I don’t want to feel fat in front of my work colleagues’ or ‘I don’t want to be restricted to wearing the same old cover up clothes’. These things are ‘good reasons’, but they aren’t incentives or motivating. Here’s a more positive and much more motivating typical list (these are actual examples from clients):

I want to find great clothes that fit me easily!

I want to feel really good meeting new people!
·
I want to be able to enjoy taking my children swimming!
·
I want to run a 10 mile race and really enjoy it!
·
I want to be able to cycle much easier!
·
I want to feel more sexy and more attractive!


What do you really want?

Simple isn’t it? Then why is it so hard...
Are you a yo-yo dieter?
Lots of diets are great. Many work really well - if you stick to them. Generally, diets and slimming is about restricting the food you eat. They tend to promote a particular angle -Only eat these foods’ and ‘Avoid those types of foods’.  Many people find that they try a diet and it works for a while, then they get bored and they put the weight back on, then they’ll try another diet, and another, and so on. This is fad dieting or yo-yo dieting - losing the weight and then putting it all back on again. Sometimes putting even more back on.

It’s about feelings
When we’re going from one diet to another, we are often too busy to stop and think about what it all means. Very often I find that people who want to lose weight also have low self-esteem (not always, but often). Until the self-esteem issue is addressed, then dieting often leads to failure to achieve the desired result. This in turn creates a cycle that pushes self-esteem down even lower. When self-esteem is good and motivation high, suddenly the weight loss becomes much easier. Hypnotherapy can help.
