Are you a yo-yo dieter?
Lots of diets are great. Many work really well - if you stick to them. Generally, diets and slimming is about restricting the food you eat. They tend to promote a particular angle - ‘Only eat these foods’ and ‘Avoid those types of foods’. Many people find that they try a diet and it works for a while, then they get bored and they put the weight back on, then they’ll try another diet, and another, and so on. This is fad dieting or yo-yo dieting - losing the weight and then putting it all back on again. Sometimes putting even more back on.
It’s about feelings
When we’re going from one diet to another, we are often too busy to stop and think about what it all means. Very often I find that people who want to lose weight also have low self-esteem (not always, but often). Until the self-esteem issue is addressed, then dieting often leads to failure to achieve the desired result. This in turn creates a cycle that pushes self-esteem down even lower.
