Confidence is not something you were born with, it’s something we develop along the way. And the good news is that we can change it too! The links between esteem, confidence and success There are many links between having a good self-esteem, good self-confidence and the achievement of success. For example, if you want to successfully manage your weight, you may be well advised to address self-esteem and confidence. Good news! The good news is that many of us can significantly increase our levels of confidence quite easily and quickly. We tend to ‘get what we think of’, so if we think of ourselves as having negative thoughts and feelings, then this will tend to undermine us. If on the other hand we change our thinking to focus on our successes and positive things, then rapid change can happen. How long might it take? Often, changing confidence takes just 1-3 sessions using suggestion therapy and this can be very useful to address increasing confidence for a specific event, such as a wedding or job interview. Sometimes, when confidence is being eroding by other problems, an analytical approach may be needed.
Many people can change their self-esteem and self-confidence to some degree on their own. There are many ways of doing this, and it can be hard work and time consuming although very rewarding if you can really focus on it. If you feel that you want to take this route, there are many self-help books available to you. One of my own favourite authors in this area is Vera Peiffer. Vera is a best selling author on the subject of positive self-help (walk into any good bookshop and you’ll find her books) and was initially trained by the IAH. Like many people I find her clarity and practical approach very useful where self-help is the chosen way forward. See here for details of some of Vera’s books. Hypnotherapy is way of accelerating change The self-help route can be very successful and useful. Generally, I find that Hypnotherapy is a way of achieving rapid change in the area of self-esteem and confidence. In some cases an analytical approach may be needed.
