In general, children respond very well to Hypnotherapy and hypnosis. Children love using their imagination and this can be turned into a powerful tool for resolving the issue. The practitioners at the Winchester Hypnotherapy Practice have many years experience of helping children of all ages and their parents to overcome their problems.
Fears and phobias
It’s quite normal for children to have some fears at some stage of their childhood, as it’s all part of growing up and maturing. We tend to grow out of fears as we develop, but if a child is suffering unduly, or the fear is not abating, it may be time to get help. Usually one or two sessions are all that are needed.
Bed wetting (enuresis)
Most children have gained bladder control by the age of around three, but bedwetting (enuresis) may occasionally occur later on (it can of course also occur in adults as well as children). The problem is normally unconnected to laziness or disobedience, and the child needs a parental attitude of positive support, rather than punishment or a ‘telling off’.
Nail biting, finger sucking and thumb sucking
As with adults, these normally tend to be simple problems that take just one or two sessions to resolve.

A wide range of issues are tackled, typically including:

School refusing, anger and social problems
At some stage in our childhood it’s not uncommon for us to refuse to go to school once or twice. If the problem cannot be easily resolved (and the parent is content with the situation at school, such as the possibility of bullying), then it may be that the child requires some help to overcome the difficulty. Other problems (for example with anger) can also respond well to Hypnotherapy.
Nightmares and sleep problems
As with adults, children can sometimes suffer nightmares and sleeping problems. These can both respond well to Hypnotherapy.
All therapists working at the Winchester Hypnotherapy Practice are checked against the PoCal List (Protection of Children Act List). This is done by the International Association of Hypno-Analysts and is a requirement of membership. Also note that Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) checks may have been done to satisfy other requirements (e.g. John Wolstenholme has undergone this to satisfy Local Education Authority requirements for his work within schools). Please ask if you need more details.
