In 1982 a radiation oncologist, Carl Simonton, and his wife Stephanie Mathews-Simonton - a psychologist - pioneered experiments using imagery to combat certain diseases. They used ‘visual imagery’ with cancer patients. They wanted to create a positive subconscious attitude, with the objective of getting well. Others have built on their approaches and some studies have shown a correlation between the visualisation in patients, and an increase in white blood cell counts.
The actual visualisation can vary greatly from person to person, and needs to be carefully tailored to the individual so that it becomes as real as possible. The whole objective is to galvanise your extremely powerful subconscious mind into action and to maximise the potential for your mind and body to work together.
