choosing a hypnotherapist

Guide to choosing a Hypnotherapist
There are many different professional organisations within Hypnotherapy. All professional and responsible therapists will belong to one or more professional organisations. Before being admitted as a member, many (but not all) organisations require their members to demonstrate their knowledge of Hypnotherapy, provide references, provide annual ongoing training and hold professional indemnity insurance.
Are you clear about the fees, and the potential length of therapy? Most Suggestion Therapy will take around 1-3 sessions, and Analytical Therapy around 6-8 sessions (and up to 12). It is rare for sessions to go beyond 12.
Are you happy about confidentiality? If not, ask questions.
After finding out all the information that you need, do you ‘feel’ comfortable with the therapist? If not, find another therapist. Your therapy is much more likely to be successful with someone that you feel comfortable with.

Professional Hypnotherapy organisations
The UK Confederation of Hypnotherapy Organisations (UKCHO) was formed to promote the regulation of professional hypnotherapy within the UK. All members of the organisations within the UKCHO are shown in the online register.

Are you comfortable?
1.
Decide if you’d prefer a male or female therapist.
2.
Look at the websites or other information from the professional organisations, most of whom publicise lists of their members.
3.
Does the therapist deal with your type of problem?
4.
Does the therapist give a free Initial Consultation?
5.
What qualifications do they have?
6.
How much are the session fees?
7.
Does the therapist give a professional image?
8.
Is the consulting room professionally presented?
9.
Is the therapist covered by professional indemnity insurance?
10.
How many sessions are likely to be needed?
11.
Do you feel comfortable with the therapist?
Any professional Hypnotherapist will be pleased to tell you about their qualifications, their professional organisations, their professional indemnity insurance and the therapy. Don’t be afraid to ask.
When visiting a therapist for an Initial Consultation, this is your opportunity to ask questions. Have a look around, is the consultation room presented professionally? Is the therapist professional in their approach? Do they take time to explain things properly to you? Do you feel comfortable?
